What is a Database - Part 1 - Try FileMaker Video Series - FMTraining.TV - 7069 In this video, I want to take a step back and discuss what is a database. Now there's a fairly basic video, but if you're new to the FileMaker platform, you might want to spend a couple minutes and go through this video with me. So first off, let's talk about this generically. A database is a collection of information, and within a database there are collections of similar types of information. So, for example, a collection of information could be a list of names. Another collection of similar items might be a list of products. Another collection of similar items might be a list of companies. Each of those items could be considered a database into itself. And in FileMaker, we call a collection of, like information a table. So in FileMaker you can go into defined fields. And you can see an FM starting point or we have various collections of information. We have collections for contacts. We have collections for products we have collected area for invoices for companies which we call accounts. We even have a collected area where we have notes. So within the world of databases, they don't use the term collection.
